Like many other car manufacturers, Maruti has also decided to produce petrol-only cars. Company has already launched BS6 Brezza petrol variant in February 2020 and now decided to update their premium crossover with a petrol engine. S-Cross will get BS6 compliant 1.5-litre petrol engine with a smart hybrid. Maruti Ciaz, XL6, Vitara Brezza and Ertiga also come with the same engine.
S-Cross will be available with Petrol engine very soon. It was planned to be launched on 31 March, earlier this year but then the lockdown happened. The engine it was coming earlier was capable of producing 90hp and 250Nm of torque. However, if you are an S-Cross fan then this time you have to limit your hopes to 105hp and 250Nm of torque because of the 1.5-litre petrol engine.
We are expecting that buyers will get more mileage this time from S-Cross than its diesel variant. It may give more than 20kmpl which is around 10 per cent more fuel-efficient. The smart hybrid technology of Maruti contains torque assist function, brake energy regeneration and engine idle stop/start feature. Brake energy regeneration converts the kinetic energy into electricity which is used to recharge the batteries. The torque-assist function enhances the acceleration by providing additional power and engine idle start/stop helps in saving fuel
The BS4 variant of S-Cross was only available with 5-speed transmission whereas the petrol engine will be offered with 4-speed automatic transmission in addition to 5-speed MT. S-Cross will also come with rear disc brakes, telescoping steering, auto climate control, 60:40 split rear seats and LED projector headlamps. The S-Cross petrol will be available in three variants – Delta, Zelta and Alpha.

The Price of S-Cross petrol is not expected to be increased as compared to BS4 diesel variant. The BS4 diesel variant was ranged between Rs 8.80 lakh to Rs 11.43. We expect the price to start from Rs 7.99 lakh for S-Cross petrol. Official bookings are not announced by Maruti yet some dealerships are taking bookings already for Rs 11,000.
Kia Selton, new Hyundai Creta and yet to come Skoda Vision IN is going to be the rivals of S-Cross. Maruti may need to come up with some new strategies to sell this petrol version because it is clear that the diesel engine has always been the USP for this car.
