Hyundai introducing iMt on Venue – Creta & Verna also in queue

Hyundai has officially confirmed that it will launch Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) turbo petrol variants of sub-4m SUV Venue this in July 2020. Other models and engines in its lineup will also get iMT.

As the name suggests, it changes gear with intelligence or in this case without the clutch. Clutch-by-wire system terminates the requirement of a clutch pedal. The sensor in the manual gear lever detects whenever the driver is about to change the gear to engage the clutch. iMt is more affordable than AMTs and conventional automatics and it perfectly fills the void between them and manual options.

In Hyundai venue, iMT will be first offered with 1.0-litre turbo-petrol TGDi engine. It will serve as a middle ground between 6-speed MT and 7-speed DCT. Which saves up to Rs 1 lakh for buyers. Next car of Hyundai to get iMT could be Verna since it also has the same engine in the same 120ps, only with DCT. Another car which is sharing engines with Verna and Venue is new-gen i20. It is also very likely to be launched with iMT.

Currently Hyundai is limiting iMT for 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine but it will broaden its horizons soon. Company is planning to present iMT with Creta’s 1.4-litre turbo-petrol unit also with 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and diesel motors too. The whole point of introducing iMT is to offer significant comfort without taking away the feel of changing gears manually.

The debut of iMT is not far away now and we are very excited to give to a detailed review about how it feels in future. iMT variant is expected to cost Rs 20,000 more than standard Manual Transmission. Kia is the only company after Hyundai which confirmed that it will introduce iMT too in its upcoming models.
