Introduction

Mahindra’s Vision S concept previews a new-generation rugged compact SUV, positioned below the Scorpio-N but carrying unmistakable Scorpio DNA. Unlike speculative reports, Mahindra has already officially revealed critical technical details, including the platform, wheelbase direction, body proportions, and structural philosophy, making Vision S far more concrete than a typical concept showcase. The Vision S is part of Mahindra’s broader “Freedom NU_IQ” design and platform strategy, aimed at creating strong-bodied, body-on-frame-inspired SUVs even in compact footprints.

Platform & Architecture: Already Officially Revealed

Mahindra has confirmed that Vision S is built on its new modular SUV platform, derived from the monocoque platform architecture adapted for compact dimensions.

Key Platform Highlights:

  • Engineered for:
    • High torsional rigidity
    • Off-road durability
    • Future electrification compatibility
  • Designed to support:
    • ICE
    • Hybrid
    • Electric powertrains

This is a monocoque compact SUV like most rivals. Mahindra is deliberately retaining rugged SUV fundamentals.

Dimensions, Wheelbase & Stance (Concept-Accurate)

While Mahindra has not released final production dimensions, concept proportions and official statements indicate the following:

 Expected Dimensions

  • Length: 3990 mm
  • Width: 1,820 mm
  • Height: 1,720 mm
  • Wheelbase: 2,665 mm
  • Ground Clearance: 227 mm

The wheelbase is longer than most sub-4.3m SUVs, clearly prioritising interior space and stability.

Boot Space & Practicality

Mahindra has emphasised usable boot volume, a weak point in many compact SUVs.

Boot Space Expectation:

  • Boot Capacity: 644 litres
  • Wide-opening tailgate
  • Flat load floor
  • Rear seat tumble-fold functionality

This places Vision S ahead of most compact SUVs and closer to mid-size offerings.

Design Philosophy: Compact Size, Scorpio Attitude

Vision S design elements clearly borrow from:

  • Scorpio-N
  • Classic Scorpio

Key Design Cues:

The design features a bold vertical grille with aggressive slats, paired with an upright bonnet that gives the SUV a strong and commanding road presence. Squared wheel arches add to the rugged stance, while short overhangs improve approach and departure angles for better off-road capability. A tailgate-mounted spare wheel, seen in the concept version, further enhances the tough look, although this element may not make it to the final production model.

This is not a soft urban crossover — Mahindra intends it to feel like a true SUV.

Interior Direction & Layout

Though interiors were not fully revealed, Mahindra has confirmed:

  • Wide, horizontal dashboard layout
  • High seating position
  • Chunky physical controls
  • Strong focus on durability over gimmicks

Expected Features:

  • Large touchscreen infotainment
  • Digital instrument cluster
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • 360-degree camera
  • Terrain modes (variant-dependent)

Powertrain Options (Highly Likely)

  • 1.5L Turbo Petrol
  • 1.5L Diesel (Mahindra strength area)

  • Diesel: 130 PS / 300 Nm

Transmission:

  • 6-speed manual

6-speed automatic
