It had introduced four new diesel–automated trims — HTE (O), HTK (O), HTK+ and HTK+ (O). These have been launched at Rs 9.77 lakh, Rs 10.72 lakh, Rs 11.08 lakh and Rs 11.56 lakh (ex-showroom, India) respectively. Now with this move the Sonet is among India’s most affordable diesel automatic compact SUV offering.

Diesel Automatic Variants Of Kia Sonet Get Cheaper

Kia has observed price-sensitive consumers, hence launched lower-spec automatic trims for it, and this step has opened new avenues for them to enjoy the diesel-automatic configuration in Kia Sonet. Until now, this powertrain was offered only with the higher variants, such as HTX and GTX+, and cost significantly more.

With the new variants, the diesel-automatic variant is now Rs 2.25 lakh less expensive than before. With this pricing strategy, Maruti is targeting a segment of the customer base which likes the comfort and ease an automatic offers but does not want to spend on higher-spec versions.

Additionally, Kia expands the petrol automatic lineup by adding two new turbo-petrol automatic variants — HTK (O) and HTK+ (O). These new variants are priced at Rs 9.89 lakh and Rs 10.83 lakh, respectively, increasing the Sonet’s automatic lineup.

The update also adds an eye catching new exterior colour called “Magma Red” to the SUV’s palette.

Engine Options and Performance

Kia has equipped the Sonet with a total of three engines to suit various driving styles. The base variant is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that churns out 83PS of power and 115Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It is built primarily for seamless and efficient city cutting.

There is also, for buyers keen for a more enthusiastic drive, a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine available to go with the Sonet. This engine is good for 120PS and 172Nm of torque, mated to either a 6-speed iMT or a more engaging 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The added diesel-automatic variants join the Sonet lineup, offering buyers more flexibility and keeping the compact SUV competitive in India’s rapidly-growing market for SUVs.
