The Indian electric vehicle market is heating up, and the collaboration between JSW and Chery (Omoda) is set to bring a wave of affordable yet premium EVs to our shores. One of the most talked-about upcoming models is the JSW C5 Electric SUV, originally known as the Omoda C5 EV. Most recently, the OMODA C5 EV featured at the Bangkok International Motor Show 2026 in Bangkok held by Grand Prix International Public Company Limited.

At the same time, upcoming models like the Renault Bigster indicate how automakers are focusing on larger, feature-rich SUVs for the Indian market.

As JSW prepares to assemble these vehicles in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, the C5 EV aims to disrupt the mid-size electric SUV segment.

JSW C5 Electric SUV Design and Dimensions: Sleek Meets Functional

Design and Dimensions: Sleek Meets Functional
The C5 EV stands out with a unique design philosophy. Unlike traditional boxy SUVs, it features a lower height and a longer wheelbase, giving it a sleek, aerodynamic silhouette. The front is dominated by a futuristic closed-off grille housing the charging port—capable of charging from 0 to 80% in just 28 minutes.

Key exterior highlights include:

LED Projector Headlamps and striking “Lightning Bolt” LED tail lamps.

18-inch Aero-efficient wheels (215/55 R18) designed for a balance of range and comfort.

Electric Tailgate, a premium feature rarely found in this price bracket.

Performance and Battery

The JSW C5 is expected to pack a 61 kWh battery pack, positioning it as a direct rival to the Maruti Suzuki e VITARA and the Tata Currv EV. While the global variants boast impressive stats, the Indian version is tuned to deliver a real-world range of approximately 500 km

JSW C5 Electric SUV: Interior Luxury and Tech

While global models have a standard electric sunroof, JSW is reportedly working on a full panoramic sunroof specifically for the Indian market to compete with the Tata Curvv EV.

Inside, the C5 EV feels more premium than its price suggests. The cabin is minimalist yet tech-heavy, featuring:

Dual-Screen Setup: A large 10.25 touchscreen with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and a distraction-free digital cluster.

Premium Sound: A 8-speaker system by Sony.

Comfort: Electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats with exceptional lumbar support.

Safety: A comprehensive ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) suite and a 360-degree high-definition camera.
Utility: Electric Tailgate with height memory—a feature missing in many rivals.

Market Positioning and Strategy

JSW’s strategy is clear: high localization to keep prices aggressive. In international markets, the car includes free home chargers, lifetime RSA, and insurance within the purchase price. If JSW mirrors this in India, the C5 EV could be a game-changer.

However, within the JSW stable, the C5 faces internal competition from the J5 (Mini Range Rover style EV). While the C5 is a solid contender, we believe the J5 might offer a more “SUV-like” presence that Indian buyers crave. Regardless, the JSW C5 EV is a testament to how far electric mobility has come, offering luxury features at a mass-market price point.
